Readers’ guide
for book clubs

Use these discussion questions to guide your next book club meeting:

  •  Several parties want to tear down Ahnwee for their own gain. Who do you think should be allowed to send in the bulldozers?

  • It is said in the book that Sybil’s biggest flaw is her stick-to-it-ness. What is your biggest flaw, and how does it compare to other book club member’s flaws?

  • Sybil wears black most always. Should she be wearing white between Memorial Day and Labor Day? And if so, what social sanctions should be brought to bear?

  • Dan can only communicate using 70s sitcom theme songs and commercial jingles. Is it cultural appropriation for him to sing the theme to “The Jeffersons”?

  • As a member of a book club, do you think the rosé madness has run its course?

  • In Time Regained, Marcel Proust says, “Every reader, as he reads, is actually the reader of himself. The writer's work is only a kind of optical instrument he provides the reader so he can discern what he might never have seen in himself without this book. The reader's recognition in himself of what the book says is the proof of the book's truth.” Discuss.

  • A character we never meet dies in a balloon accident in 1892. Should more of the characters have gotten killed in balloons? Should there be more characters killed by balloons in novels in general?

  • (For book clubs in New York) Is it believable that anyone lives west of Philadelphia and east of LA? Discuss what states you’ve heard of that don’t have a seacoast and what they may be like.

  • It is said that an infinite number of monkeys given infinite time would write the complete works of Shakespeare. How many days would it take one monkey with a TBI to write Ahnwee Days?
